When you look at flourishing businesses, do you wonder what their secret of success is?
As for me, I believe that the secret lies in their leadership authority.
Leadership is one of the core ingredients to run a business; small or large doesn’t matter. The quality of leadership can affect every inch of an organisation. A great leader can flourish the company as well as inspire people. On the other hand, one wrong authority can collapse an entire empire.
In short, if a business is a car, a leader is the driver. It’s in their hands whether the car will crash or run smoothly.
One of my favourite quotes of leadership is,

“The essence of great leadership is influence,
not authority”
– Ken Blanchard
Leadership is the ability to influence and guide the behaviour of others to achieve specific goals. Thus, a great leader is one who can lead in several situations day after day, year after year.
A leader should adopt a set of leadership principles to harness the potential of their employees. Some people are born leaders, while others must acquire the necessary skills and abilities to lead effectively.
If you want to be a good leader, there are a few things you must acquire first. These essential leadership responsibilities are a must to achieve the objectives of an organisation or company.
-
Set Clear Visions
One of the significant responsibilities of a leader is to create a clear vision. One leader should have a clear idea of what he/she wants to achieve and why’s that necessary for the organisations’ betterment. He then needs to share his aims and goals with his fellow team members. A leaders responsibility is to inspire the team members to achieve specific goals. If a team member is aware of his/her contributions to the company, they will feel motivated and perform in order to achieve the shared goals.
-
Build Trustworthiness
Trust is a three-way lane,
- A leader should be able to trust his/her team members.
- Team members should be able to trust their leader.
- The team members should trust one another.
One can not just achieve trust; efforts simply gain it. A leader gains trust by displaying his honesty and integrity. Believing in their leader can bring the best out of the team members. Their will power and thirst for achieving the goal will drive them forward and polish their competencies. And the key component here is trust.
-
Communicate Effectively
A leader is considered the sole and most reliable source of information to his/her team. So, a good leader needs to be a good communicator. It is their responsibility to ensure effective communication to fulfil their shared agenda. A leader can not expect his team members to understand and execute a task without communicating clearly. While leading a team, communication is the wire that joins both ends and channels ideas.
-
Maintain Healthy Relationships
The establishment of relations with both staff and clients is one of the hallmarks of a leader who dedicates themselves to their position and business. Maintaining business relationships requires a great deal of time, emotion, and effort, and your team members and clients are well aware of it. These affiliations will motivate them to work harder and go above and beyond their duties.
-
Work on Strengths and Weaknesses of Team Members
It is an essential duty of a leader to evaluate and facilitate the potentials of his/her team members. They need to coach their fellow subordinates on achieving goals and help them develop the necessary skills. These facilitations include building up a team member’s performance and giving positive feedback for improvement.
A leader should be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the team members. It will help them to determine the potential of the employees. Identifying the weaknesses will assist them in resolving the problems and administering the employees to overcome them.
-
Resolve Conflict
There are people with different personalities in the workplace. There will be liking and disliking. While working as a team, it is bound to have some conflicts. It is the leader’s job to make sure these conflicts don’t become an obstacle to their goals.
By setting up some ground rules and assigning individual tasks, a leader can prevent conflicts. A leader should have overall control over the team to lead them in the right direction, without any clash.
-
Inspire Creativity
Creativity comes with a lot of hard work and practice. A leader’s job is to create and ensure enough scope of creativity. It’s their duty to push the team-mates out of their comfort zones to discover their creativity.
A leader should always motivate and praise the progress of their employees. It is imperative to make sure problem solving and out of the box ideas are appreciated; it will encourage the employees to work more diligently.
-
Take Responsibility and Show Support
It is easy to pass the blame onto others, but it’s harder to take responsibility. While operating as a team, the leader is counted accountable for not achieving the goals and objectives because it was their duty to lead the team there. It‘s a leader’s duty to end the cycle and bear the criticism.
Also, make sure to be there whenever your team members require your support and supervision. When they are grinding themselves to follow your lead, you too need to work harder. If there’s any problem with other management teams, stick your neck out for them. It will boost their morale and help them realise that their leader has got their back.
Amongst many, these are a handful yet essential responsibilities a leader should perform. These are very important for being a well-rounded and compelling authority. Hopefully, these elements will help you grow as a great leader and help you achieve your goals.
